The salmon are back in Churchville; it\u2019s their time to return. Gary and I stood on our bridge over the\nCredit River one evening last week at dusk and spied two three-foot gray salmon\nfighting against the strong current in the lower, dark water. They were travelling\nupstream to a spawning spot after three years of maturing in Lake Ontario. The female will lay up to 5000 eggs to be\nfertilized by the male. If this whole\nprocess is too exhausting, they will die. \nHow do they know this is what they are to do if God had not set it all\nin motion?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Squirrels are busy carrying large walnuts (almost too big for\ntheir small mouths) from our neighbour\u2019s tree to be hidden in our backyard often\nin weird places such as our hose winder. \nOne day I noticed a blue jay snatch a forgotten peanut buried deep in\nthe grass last fall. How do these furry\ncreatures know it is time for them to get ready for winter if the Master of all\nnature isn\u2019t reminding them of this responsibility? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our\nfriend, Thomas and his family live in a town about 80 miles north of Mandalay,\nMyanmar. His desire is to purchase land\nto establish a pig farm to financially support an orphanage and church. He reports, \u201c32 % of the population lives\nbelow the poverty line. One out of three\nchildren under the age of five suffer chronic malnutrition. One out of four children drop out of primary\nschool and are forced to enter the workforce early to supplement their family\nincome.\u201d If they don\u2019t earn enough money\nthey are beaten or the parents may abandon them to find work in China, never to\nreturn. This fall it is time to ramp up our outreach efforts for Hillside\nChurch. Gary has developed a database through\nlots of ups and downs with computer glitches and a slower-moving mind from his\nspring surgery over the past few months. \nHe thinks it is now ready to record and document accurately all the door\ncontacts and their responses we are making. It has like the salmon battling their way\nupstream on the Credit River. Please\npray that Milton people will continue to be willing to take our quick survey so\nwe can begin a relationship with them. Satan\ndoesn\u2019t like our organized, determined work; however, we are believing the Lord\u2019s\npromise in Psalm 85:12, \u201cThe Lord will\nindeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.\u201d We never know who will have enough courage to\ncome around the corner and visit our church in the days ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
FYI, Gary has just finished his free, 13-week\nrehabilitation programme over the summer and a final stress test. He is doing\nwell, walking about 3+ kilometers five days a week and accumulating 150 heart\npoints each week. We are so grateful\nthat we live in Canada with its excellent healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
