Can you say it five times? Even experienced news reporters and politicians catch their tongues stumbling over it. I barely remember anything from my high school days when I did manage to pass Latin. The translation, however, is “this for that”. Recently, due to this persistent news focus, I created my own Latin phrase because Gary is always asking me what my plans are for the day. My frequent retort is “this and that” and thus “quid et quo”. We are a people who look after a lot of details day by day which adds up to a lot of life in the long run.

One of our “this and that” activities was to take a walk on a gorgeous, autumn Sunday afternoon along the Credit river. The path goes through some woods to a Highway 407 bridge spanning the river, about 1 ½ kilometers from our home. As we approached the bridge, we saw that it was held up by 24 huge cement columns. And on those columns graffiti artists had spray painted their own intricate colourful designs. Those designs will remain until someone new comes along to leave their individual imprint over top. As you sail along the highway above you never know what’s beneath you.

Every church has numerous “this and that” details to keep it moving forward. This fall our Hillside Church start seems to have stalled somewhat. Aaron & Sara Bouchard have been struggling with family sickness and lack of sleep due to a teething baby. In addition, they are focusing on bringing in enough money to survive financially. We long to see a few Christian families join with us for encouragement and help carry the load. We shared in the relief of one of our church members. His son threw a small toy down their toilet this past weekend which annoyingly clogged up the works. Gary gave the father our toilet “snake” and in a few minutes the problem was solved. This single dad is really happy to be part of a church family that can help him get through some of the inconvenient troubles he encounters.

Gary has identified that the number of baptisms among Baptists is dropping precipitously. He is creating a course of tips and truths that pastors need to learn on the subject. It is a work in progress. You can check it out at baptismbooster.com.

Aren’t you glad that God’s plan of salvation for our lives does not include a “quid pro quo” concept? He has done it all for us through His Son along with providing an unseen, undergirding strength to help us accomplish “quid et quo” loving actions for His glory.

Thanks for your ongoing interest in our lives,

Wendy

Wendy.carter@kainos.org

Quid et Quo Greetings! “Quid pro quo” is a Latin phrase we have been bombarded with over this past month from our neighbours to the south.
