That is, we spied a cute, reddish-brown fox jogging along the side of a nearby building headed in our direction. We had just arrived in the Swiss Chalet parking lot for our Sunday service and were ready to take our gear out of our car into the restaurant’s back room where we meet. Foxes are known to be sly because of their stealth, deception and ability to lure their predators away. So, at that point I decided I wasn’t getting out of our vehicle. But then he quickly turned the corner of the building and disappeared. Whew! Isn’t it upsetting when you have developed some fear of the unknown – when you don’t know what to expect next that might not turn out to be good?

In the New Testament, we learn that Jesus sent out his disciples two by two on a training mission to nearby towns and villages to find interested people who wanted to hear about the arrival of the Messiah they longed for. They must have been scared out of their minds as they had no idea how those they would encounter would respond – both positively and negatively.

Milton SummerFest happened Saturday June 6. Scott Lockhart, our lead pastor at Hillside was there with volunteers from The Fellowship of Christian Farmers Canada to hand out walking sticks. Sadly, two students who promised to come out and help had to cancel. Maybe they were too fearful to take on that task like Jesus’ disciples. Thankfully Scott managed to capture contact data from 25 folk who were interested in receiving more information about our church. He is now busy following up with these people through texts, phone calls, e-mails and personal visits. Please pray that some will be brave enough to visit our church one Sunday and even return thereafter. They definitely would not know what to expect.

Our friend, Thomas, in Myanmar whom our charity, Kainos International Ministries has been supporting for several years, is always fearful that the government will throw another unexpected curve ball at him regarding his orphanage and orphans. He is still trying to get the license for his orphanage settled along with another license for his motor bike so he can purchase fuel. It seems their government rules are too complicated for us to comprehend.

Gary and I have been quite healthy until we hit our 80s last year and this year, and now, we are having to address some unknown ailments that have arisen. I have a hiatal hernia, and Gary has recently discovered he has an aneurism on his aorta just above his belly button. After too many doctor visits for research, I am doing fine but Gary will have to see a surgeon sooner than later. We could become fearful but then we also can gain comfort from the Old Testament Bible verse in Isaiah 41:10 which declares, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and will help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Happy Canada Day tomorrow!

Wendy
Wendy.carter@kainos.org

https://myanmarorphans.ca; https://youtu.be/JcQXJOwlS4s

A fox came to church a couple of weeks ago.
