Happy, Noisy Birds
Jun 30
“Hey buddy! Slow down and don’t be so noisy!” I was yelling at a little brown wren perched on our seed station just outside our kitchen window. He was twittering at the top of his lungs with his mouth wide open, flapping his wings and then flitting back and forth to the spruce trees at the side of our house. He just kept singing and singing and singing all day long. What a hyper guy! I thought he was upset about something but apparently, he was just trying to attract a mate and mark his territory around our home. Since then, I haven’t heard him as much as he probably found his mate, built his nest and had babies.
Our backyard is always full of birds chirping away cheerfully. I’m not sure which voice goes with which bird. Sadly, their happiness is not always well received by our neighbour particularly when they start their songfest at 4:25 in the morning. It seems to me that birds follow the example of the Psalmist David in the Old Testament who wrote numerous praise psalms to God. I like Psalm 100: 1-3 which exclaims, “Shout for joy (or as an older translation commands – make a joyful noise) to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his…” Both birds and David seem to be very happy with life because they belong to God.
We are very happy with what is happening for our Canada Summer Jobs program. A third student, Brooklyn, has joined Marion and Kaiya in connecting with people in Milton neighbourhoods. They have called over 4000 homes so far with about 180 willing to take our survey. By the end of the summer, we will have many to continue to develop relationships with. Please pray for these young missionaries as they cope with this tedious work, day by day and that God will direct their lives when they return to school this fall. Since COVID seems to be waning, the current plan is to officially launch the end of September.
Episode 7, Season 2 for The Chosen series is airing tonight at 9 p.m. – TheChosen.TV. What a great presentation on the life of Christ!
Do you ever sing loudly to show your happiness and appreciation for God’s love and faithfulness to you like our feathered friends? In this discouraging world we live in, don’t you agree that it’s time to nosily sing a new positive song?
Happy Canada Day!
