Spreading Good Stuff
May 31
Do you know what a Canna Lily looks like? It is a flowering plant with huge burgundy leaves and a red flower at its height of about 8 feet tall. It is a wonderful plant for large garden displays. A friend gave me some tubers/roots last summer which I planted near the end of our front porch. It flourished wonderfully throughout August to October. Then I chopped down the foliage, dug up the tubers, which I placed in a box and that box was put in our crawl space under our house where it is dry and dark. This spring I took these ugly-looking roots outside, planted some in my garden and gave some to my daughter, two daughters-in-law, a neighbour, and our pastor’s wife. I was spreading my “good stuff” to others. Hopefully, they will see beautiful plants in their gardens; however, I have no control over that part.
Saturday, June 7 is fast approaching for our Milton Summerfest event that will occur. Scott Lockhart has connected with a farmers’ association that sets up a booth. Last year they gave out about 3000 walking sticks to people who were willing to listen to a quick Gospel message. This is one way of spreading “good stuff” or the Gospel. Please pray that Scott and his team will be able to conduct divine conversations and capture contact information for future communication about Hillside Church. As you well know, peoples’ lives are very messy but still very resistant. Also, since we have been approved to hire one student for the summer for the Canada Summer Jobs program for community outreach, please pray that we will find someone to take on that challenge.
Our friend Thomas in Myanmar has been spreading “good stuff” to his orphans during the break before another school term starts. He wanted to make sure that each one understands God’s plan of salvation or the Gospel message. The children are now excited with this extra teaching and want to become baptized as good followers of Jesus. He continues to develop the property that he has been able to purchase through our help. He bought 3 piglets through a loan he has obtained to occupy the barn already erected on this land. He would like to buy 6-7 more piglets costing about $700 CDN to augment his income. The crops he has planted can’t be harvested until October.
It is recorded in Acts 6:7 in the New Testament of the Bible that “… the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.” That “good stuff” amazingly spread far and wide after Jesus’ death and resurrection up until today when 2.5 billion people on our planet call themselves “Christian.” Now, that’s worth studying!
Enjoy our beautiful spring days! My tulips keep blooming.
Wendy
