Travelling Along Way
Jul 31
Greetings!
I can’t believe what has been happening with my English Ivy. I planted it about ten years ago at the back corner of our Churchville home. It has travelled along the back wall of the house as well as along the driveway side and is almost turning the corner at the front of the house. One plant! It must love our soil. That may be one way to forgo exterior painting. Who knows!
I mentioned last month that we travelled to Timmins to visit our old First Baptist Church friends. They will be sending a team down to Milton August 25th weekend to go door to door knocking to find those who want to hear about our new church plant. We could use a lot of prayer for that weekend. Upon leaving Timmins we headed to Moosonee to visit our son Rob and his family for a few days. In total we travelled 1600 kilometers in one week. That’s a lot!
Mid-July we travelled to London, ON to attend the funeral of 93-year-old Bob Taylor. He was a dear Christian friend and deacon at Eastwood Baptist Church which we started in St. Thomas in 1980. Anyone living into their nineties has, indeed, travelled many a mile and seen many a change taking place in our country.
I keep saying our Hillside Church in Milton is inching along with lots of ups and downs. Bouchards and Lockharts are struggling with health issues plus other various challenges that need to be solved e.g. finding new accommodation for September and making more sales for their painting business. It is getting close to a year that these two families decided to move from Timmins to Milton – over a nine-hour drive – to establish this church start. They didn’t have a clue as to what to expect at the end of that long journey. Every Sunday we just shake our heads as to what God is doing. You can’t make this up; lives are so messy. In our service this morning we had four more newcomers – two ladies with their two pre-school children – who probably have never been in church before and have no idea what is contained in the Bible, our standard for living. Again, we could use a lot of your prayer. Gary is meeting weekly for a Bible study with the father of one of these ladies.
As to our own personal situation, we have taken our house off the market for about a week and then will relist it. Hopefully that will rejuvenate interest. It may take us a year to sell it due to its heritage uniqueness. Also, we actually celebrated our 50th this past Friday. Gary and I have travelled many a mile together. We are very grateful that God has led us all that way without having to deal with too many sticky problems; although Gary is hobbling around with a sprained ankle he twisted the other night when jumping down from a bleacher. He was watching our two teenaged granddaughters play softball. God alone knows where our ongoing travels will take us before we enter eternity with Him. We just long to finish well as our pastor friend, Joe Boyachek from Richview Baptist is doing. He helped baptize his twins last Sunday in Lake Ontario! God bless you in all your travels, whether short or long, for His name’s sake.
