The Importance of Our Homes

May 31

Bonjour!

Upon gardening one morning I discovered a large rock-like bump in one of my gardens.  With a closer look I realized it wasn’t a rock but a huge ant hill.  Gross!  I dug into it with my shovel and numerous ants scurried out. I was actually quite impressed with their home and their building skills – so much work.  It must have been there for a while for ground cover had grown over the top of it.  Nicely done, guys!  I decided not to destroy it for now.

As the ants’ home is important to these wee creatures, our homes have become really important to us over the past few months during this COVID crisis.  We have spent a lot of time in them.  Gary and I are surrounded by gifts, both big and small, from family and friends along with souvenirs from our various travels that we have accumulated through the years. Our dining-room suite was an indirect gift from Bible School friends. I am wondering where they are today.  An interesting vase came from a church friend plus, we think, some money to allow our Korean born son, Lee, to visit his homeland when he was about 14.  Our beds were provided to us by our inventor neighbour several years ago.  He is now in heaven with his Maker.  The secretary/desk in our living-room was inherited from my parents.  They probably bought it in the 1930s.  There is a planter with a plant sitting on our kitchen window sill.  We received it when first married from our first church of ministry together in Windsor almost 52 years ago.  So many delightful memories with so many interesting stories.  Your house is probably similar and I’m sure you would agree these symbols of love help soothe our anxious souls a little in our safe havens.

Good news! Gary applied to the government for summer student funding for our church.  We have been approved for $8500.  We can hire one person to contact homes in Milton either by phone or knocking on their door and another to enter data from these contacts made.  These people will work 30 hours/week.  If you know of anyone that might fit this position, please let us know.  Please pray for all the details to be worked out and a positive response from those contacted.  Gary continues to create our online services every Sunday at 10:00 – facebook.com/hillsidechurchmilton.  These services can be watched at any time.  It still is quite a challenge for him with all the equipment he is using.  Once the program starts, he can’t restart.  He must also remember to hit the right button at the right time.

Jesus knew the importance of living in a house for John 14:2 informs us, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”  It is really hard to imagine what this home would look like.  As we get older so many of our peers are moving on to their heavenly designated space.  A beloved professor/mentor, Dr. Kermit Ecklebarger, who married us, suddenly died with a heart attack a couple of weeks ago.  Now he knows.

Taking one day at a time for His Sake,

Wendy
