Good Systems in Place
Oct 31
Hi there!
It is finally finished and lookin’ great! I have hung up my exterior paint brush after sprucing up our front porch for the past two months which I mentioned in my blog last month. I’m just in time for colder days ahead. I really like working systematically or this project would have become too overwhelming since our porch is rather large. How about you and the projects you tackle? Most afternoons I was out there first of all painting the two door frames, then the doors, the railings, the window frames and last of all the decking. Numerous people walking by seemed to watch my progress with interest. (I don’t think we have ever seen so many walking by during these COVID days!). Maybe my success will inspire me to move on to some indoor painting.
I have always been enamored by Old Testament stories that particularly have shown off the Israelites’ organizational skills. Good systems must have been put in place to be able to count the number of soldiers that went off to war, the amazing detail that was needed to build Solomon’s temple, the various positions of governance to take care of so many people’s needs and more. Even though the Israelites were very disobedient too often, they did learn much from a God of order on how to conduct their lives. Check out Job 25:2, “Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven.”
Gary, along with Scott Lockhart, fully understand the importance of putting good systems in place regarding our outreach program for Hillside Church. Our callers are currently working on a second Milton neighbourhood of about 3000 homes – the first one consisting of about 3100 homes. Pray for them as this work gets very tedious. We have sent out five letters, a week apart, to the contacts we have made so far. We thought our official launch would take place last Sunday; however, we also thought that Halton would be shut down this week which did not happen. We are on a roller coaster ride for planning. When Toronto reopens then maybe we can reconsider launching again. Please pray that we may discover some solid Christian families that will come along side of our ministry.
We are excited. Several years ago, Gary wrote a systematic study of the Gospel of John called The John Challenge for a period of 20 days which involves reading the section for the day taking about ten minutes. We have discovered that anyone who reads this Gospel several times over will soon become a believer as we are. It is finally published in book form which can be purchased on Amazon or let us know and we can mail you a copy for $15. There is also a free app available – thejohnchallenge.xyz. Do you have a friend you could do this study with?
God bless and stay healthy,
Wendy
