Happiness is Having Friends

Jan 31

“Promise me you will bring me a wedding picture to look at when you come next Tuesday!”  commanded Nina.  Nina has become our friend at our local No Frills grocery store since the beginning of the pandemic. We started chatting with this friendly woman when she was counting all the people entering the store.  Each week we learn more about her and she learns more about us.

We survived the huge snowfall we received two weeks ago with the help of two friends.  One friend plowed out our driveway from the back of our car to the street with his “toy”.  Another neighbour friend widened Dan’s work the next day.  Wow, 17 inches was a lot for this little old shovelling lady!  And then we found a package of food for our supper at the side of our door the same day.  We have no idea who that friend was, but we really do appreciate the support just like the apostle Paul did when he found himself in jail and the centurion was allowed to “… permit his friends to take care of his needs.” (Acts 24:23).

Next Sunday we return to Ned’s Restaurant in Milton since indoor dining has been allowed again. Gary and Scott Lockhart have been presenting our service online during January – check us out at Facebook.com/hillsidechurchmilton.  These men always have something worthwhile to say. It is difficult to know what to expect in our church life. This week we unexpectedly received an anonymous donation from some friends – thank you whoever you are!  Please pray for a mailing and some Bibles going out to our most interested contacts this week to invite them to our Feb. 13th service.  We want to find more happiness, i.e., more Milton friends who need to learn about Jesus.  Please also remember to pray for Scott who is still looking for a job.  He had a positive second interview with a company this past week.

Our good friend, Thomas in Myanmar, was sent church money this past week so he can purchase additional building supplies for the orphanage he has started building.  He and his two sons were enthralled by the amount of snow and freezing weather we have been experiencing.  They liked the boiling water experiment being thrown up in the air to create a mist which Gary was able to show them online.  The coldest they get is about eight degrees; however, it seems very cold without a central heating system in their home.  I am very grateful for my warm home these days, aren’t you?

An early Happy Valentine’s Day, friends!
