Good hearing
Jun 30
One of my favourite birds is the red-breasted robin. God has created this creature of the air with very distinct characteristics. Often, we find them on the ground searching for worms in our backyard. Their hearing must be incredible. They take a few hops, stand very still, cock their head to listen and quickly dive for their prey. How can they hear that quiet worm sliding through the soil below?
My family members were saying I needed to get my hearing tested so last year I finally made an appointment. No aids were needed for me; however, I made an appointment for Gary. He was the one with the bad hearing and ended up buying a pair of these listening devices as he had 40% loss of high pitch sounds in one ear. Who knew? Actually, he has been very grateful for them.
One of my favourite Bible stories is found in Mark 7:33-35. Here we find Jesus healing a deaf man. “… some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him. After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means ‘Be opened!’). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened, and he began to speak plainly.” It is really hard to imagine how he felt. Unexpectedly, He was given a new life and a new perspective on that life.
Our Hillside story continues with its ups and downs. Scott Lockhart is very grateful that he is feeling so much better these days after his stomach treatments. His motivation has increased so he can accomplish many more tasks. He is planning to develop his own business which will help scheduling with his two girls over the summer months. A generous couple have agreed to help him out with a loan to settle his financial concerns regarding his Timmins’ home. Sadly, we still do not have a new location to meet; however, Scott is trying to connect with the owners of Ned’s Restaurant where we met previously to get permission to return Sundays. We also still have not heard back from the Canada Summers Job program that we have participated in the last two years to make new contacts in Milton. Revelations chapter 2, 3, and 13 repeat the phrase, “Whoever has ears, let them hear.” thirteen times. The people of Milton will not hear about Jesus’ good news unless God opens their ears for us to tell them all about it. Thank you very much for your prayers. They are being answered.
Happy Canada Day!
