Plogging Anyone?

Nov 30

Hi All!

Do you happen to be a plogger?  You’ve never heard of it before?  Neither had Gary and me.  One day out walking and picking up garbage in Churchville which has become a somewhat regular pattern for us, we met up with two ladies jogging with their dogs.  Gary remarked to them that they pick up after their dogs and we pick up after humans.  One of the ladies yelled out, “The term is plogging.” as she ran off. Upon returning home, Gary consulted Google and learned, “Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). It started as an organized activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution.”  Way to go, Sweden! Actually, we should be called “plolkers” since we are not joggers, only walkers.  Interesting.

Don’t you find the older you get the more useless information you collect in your brain?  The other day Gary was quoting from Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss that he had read to our children when they were really young.  Sam I Am didn’t like green eggs and ham. Now, where did that come from?  If only we could find a way to become ploggers of the brain to be able to kick such unwanted mind stuff to the curb.  If only we could be better followers of the Apostle Paul’s example when he muses in Philippians 3:7-9, “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him … “ I am musing too.

On a more praiseworthy note, we are excited for Aaron and Sara Bouchard who get to move from Brampton to their own rental space this coming Saturday to the south side of Milton.  They have done a lot of travel between the two places over the past two months for church and painting business purposes.  They are so looking forward to living on their own particularly as Sara is expecting their third child in the spring.  Thank you for your prayers on their behalf. Please continue to pray for Scott & Candice Lockhart and their two little girls in Sarnia as they are experiencing some difficulties.

Sadly, Pastor Joe Boyachek (see previous blog), finally met his Maker this past Monday after being in a hospice for a few days.  The funeral will be this coming Saturday.  Please pray for his family left behind and the future they will be facing without him.  One son said to his mom, “What will we do without Dad?”

Our daughter, Sara Burton, will be presenting an Old Testament synopsis at our church from Canada’s Walk Through the Bible this coming Sunday, Dec 2 and returning Dec 16 for the conclusion.  This event will be very meaningful for our attenders that haven’t read much of the Bible before.

May you enjoy this Christmas as never before with your family and friends,

Wendy
