Righting a Wrong
Aug 31
“O.K. let’s cut it down!” After too many years I finally agreed with Gary to dispose of a spindly evergreen that I had purchased about 16 years go for $5. I had planted it too close to the side of our house porch which was a bad decision. Now it was reaching to the sky above our roofline and tangling itself in our house wires. Every time I accidentally touched its needles an itchy rash broke out on my arms. With my mind made up, I started clipping away at the lower branches. Soon after Gary appeared on the scene with his electric “Sawsall”, the 20-foot trunk was denuded in no time with branches lying everywhere on the ground. He even climbed up on the porch roof to cut some away. Men! Here’s a fun fact for you: 20 bags of yard waste = one demolished evergreen. I am glad our garbageman didn’t complain. We will get our friendly neighbour to finish the task with his chain saw. The wrong has been righted.
In 2020 and 2021, our charity, Kainos International Ministries was approved to receive Canada Summer Jobs funding to hire students for Hillside Church’s outreach in Milton. The first year closed off well but during the second year, somehow our case worker stopped responding to Scott Lockhart after many attempts and our account was not properly dealt with. Recently we received a bill from the government requiring us to pay back over $7000 they had sent us to pay our students which is rather discouraging. Scott, and now along with me, have made numerous attempts to reconnect with this case worker and her supervisor, but to no avail. I have even emailed our local Brampton MP who has agreed to touch base with them on our behalf. So far, this wrong has not been righted. We could really use your prayers on this one.
Milton is full of citizens who are discouraged, depressed, focussed on fulfilling their own needs and direction in life. That is why we have wanted to establish Hillside Church in this fast-growing community over the past few years for we know we can help right their wrong decisions and give them hope for the future on earth and for eternity. We have seen it happen time and time again for other lives through the years. We just need to gain their attention so we can tell them about Jesus Christ’s love and interest in them. However, various obstacles keep blocking our path. We must keep relying on Jesus’ powerful words in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Scott is more determined than ever to proceed with his plan to see Hillside develop more and more. He is working hard at creating his lead generation business for bringing in an income to meet his financial needs. He has connected with several people over the past couple of weeks to this end. Please pray that he will turn a corner this fall. The sale of his house in Timmins closes today. Also, Gary has been visiting downtown Milton every Wednesday afternoon to gain information about the town and make some new contacts.
Enjoy another long holiday weekend before our children, grandchildren and teachers head back to school! Please pray that they will not be influenced by their peers to make wrong decisions.
Wendy
