Walking through …
Mar 31
Have you experienced a Walk Through the Bible live event in Canada? This organization based in Atlanta, Georgia has partnered with churches worldwide over the past 40 years to engage people in learning about the chronology of Old Testament and New Testament events through the use of unique hand signs and biblical resources to enhance memory skills. Scott Lockhart, our Hillside Church lead pastor and our daughter, Sara Burton are now employed part-time for Walk Through the Bible Canada to better market this program to our Canadian churches. Would your church be interested to “Take a walk. Change the world!”? Sara would love to come and make an Old Testament or New Testament presentation (saraburton71@gmail.com) for a couple of hours. Any age group loves it! This is an answer to prayer for both Sara and Scott. Biblical knowledge is so very much needed in our wonderful, but needy country, wouldn’t you agree?
People walking through our village of Churchville has begun now that spring arrived last week. We have three parks, a river and a pond that they really enjoy sauntering by while listening to the various bird calls and viewing multi-coloured flowers poking their heads out. Except we do not enjoy the litter they leave behind. Gary and I have been out a couple of days “plogging” (a Swedish term meaning to pick up and run – the running part not so much). As good examples for our youth, we must continue to keep our country clean and not cluttered with trash!
We are still awaiting approval for the Canada Summers Job program which will probably happen in another month. Walking through downtown Milton is the place to explore since there is no major mall. In a few short blocks there are over 25 restaurants or coffee shops. It is also jam-packed on special occasions such as Canada Day or Thanksgiving. Perhaps we will use our hired students to survey these walkers to better understand their thinking on Milton living. Please pray that this approval will come through so that we have enough time for proper planning of our outreach program.
The best means of transportation for Jesus and his disciples travelling throughout the numerous towns of Israel they visited was walking. It is recorded in Mark 2:23-24 that on one Sabbath Jesus was walking through the grainfields with his disciples who began to pick some heads of grain because they were hungry. The ever-watchful, duty-bound Pharisees complained, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” You generally can’t get into too much trouble by just walking, but the disciples were certainly criticized for their actions.
Did you walk through a special place this Easter weekend? There is still time. It is good for you, or Gary will be on your case like he is on mine. Actually, he has gained the right since he has been faithfully walking three times a week almost every week since his quadruple by-pass surgery five years ago this coming Monday. Now where did that time go!
Stay healthy!
Wendy
