The Way of Water

Oct 31

“Yup! It’s leaking!” I declared.  I had discovered the small mat on the floor beside our upstairs bathroom toilet was wet.  The following Saturday Gary put on his plumbing hat.  He pulled out the toilet and replaced the old ring with a new one.  That water problem was quite easily solved; however, we did find minimal water damage on the ceiling of our guest room below.  The whole ceiling will have to be repainted.  Water will travel whichever way it wants to, particularly if it is running down hill.  Just ask our American friends in Florida and North and South Carolina and other places in the world with their recent nightmarish flooding and powerful hurricane winds that spread the water further and caused unbelievable damage.

We read a dramatic story about Jesus and his disciples boating on the Sea of Galilee in Mark 4:35-41 in the New Testament of the Bible. A storm suddenly emerged, and water was flying every which way due to the onslaught of squalling winds.  When the waves broke over the boat, the disciples became really terrified for their lives as they knew the boat could sink with the weight of so much water.  They immediately woke up Jesus for his help who quickly calmed the way of the water on the sea – an easy fix for Jesus.

The citizens of Milton, as in places everywhere, similar to water, want to follow their own way which doesn’t always work out the best for them.  And thus, we have been establishing Hillside Church so people can find out about Jesus’ way of life to live.  It is not an easy task as so many in this day and age are distracted along whatever pathway they are following.  We do see glimpses of God’s work in some lives, such as one of our servers at Swiss Chalet wants to donate money to our church.  Go figure. She catches a bit of our services while accomplishing her chores around the restaurant before it officially opens at 11:00.  Our two Punjabi students love living in their new Christian home in Milton and continue to attend our meetings.  Thank you for your prayers as they both have found needed jobs which Scott Lockhart caringly helped them find.

Chrissy Lockhart, Scott’s wife, as of tomorrow, will become the full-time Executive Director for a crisis pregnancy centre (aidtowomen.ca) in Toronto.  This is a new way of vocation for her and another answer to your prayers as it will immensely help this couple financially in their ministry.  Scott will continue developing their Healthy Homes Cleaning Company (healthyhomescleaningcompany.com). They are building a regular clientele list. Also, they may have a lead on a new rental place to move into by December 1.

Life is somewhat quiet these days for our friend Thomas, his family and eight orphans in Myanmar.  These children are doing extremely well in school.  They have rented farmland from their neighbour to plant vegetables and flowers for income; however, this person is considering selling his property.  They would then have to find another place to rent.  The neighbour’s land could be purchased for about $15,000 CDN.  This family always seems positive about discovering God’s way for their uncertain lives.

Gary is busy these days with Richard Flemming from The Fellowship denomination in writing a book and curriculum for their new Breakthrough Pathways program which will help train interested men in a local church to become vital leaders through triad connections.  Check out Breakthroughpathways.org.  No matter how old we are getting our “water” seems to keep flowing some how and in some way; although I have just come home from having a difficult molar extraction (nasty procedure!) and in December I will have a left eye cataract operation.  We are not invincible!

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back this weekend!
