One and Only
Feb 28
“Aw, there is one and only one!” I was complaining to Gary that our large Christmas cactus hanging in our front room window was bearing only one pretty blossom. Where were the others? I guess it’s not a Christmas plant either since they didn’t appear at Christmas. I think I need to pay better attention to all the ads that scroll by on Facebook recommending pruning. Then maybe I can hope for good results next year.
Scott Lockhart is making plans for several special events for Hillside Church this year.
1/ Literature being mailed to previous Milton contacts inviting them to join us for our Easter service.
2/ An Inquiry dessert meeting scheduled for Saturday April 26, 3-5, at Swiss Chalet for those interested in learning more about our church.
3/ Church promotion at Milton’s SummerFest June 7.
4/ Summer day camp at a private school just outside of Milton – details being worked out.
5/ September 7 Hillside Relaunch Sunday
Please pray that newcomers will be courageous enough to attend any of these events so that they can learn about Jesus. Many residents in Milton come from diverse backgrounds and it will take quite a commitment to become his followers to the point that they may be the one and only Christian in their family.
We are still very excited about the progress we are making with Thomas in Myanmar and the purchase of property in his neighbourhood. He has enough money for tomorrow’s installment plus we have collected two more installments. Please pray that the rest of the money (about 5 at $600 each) will be raised and then the whole project will be complete – an orphanage for children in a loving family atmosphere along with land to provide for all of their expenses. Thomas will have a one and only orphanage of its kind that will be perpetually self-sustainable and can be replicated for many more.
Gary continues to broadcast his program Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. based on each chapter of the book The Training of the Twelve by A.B. Bruce – youtube.com@breakthroughpathways. It has proven helpful to those who have watched it. Check it out.
The most popular verse in the Bible is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus is described as God’s “one and only” son. He is unique in all aspects. I am glad that I am one of his followers because what he said in the Gospels of the New Testament makes sense to me.
We have been blasted with lots of snow this month. At least this week there has been much melting; however, our neighbours are worried that we might have another scenario of flooding like we had a couple of years ago. Great quantities of icy water will rapidly travel down from the north through the Credit River flowing through our village. We will see what happens.
God’s best to you all,
Wendy
