Bad & Good

Apr 30

“Oh dear! One more project to fix!”  I complained to Gary while standing outside at the front of our house and looking down at our broken wooden mailbox laying on the ground.  When we were away on vacation for a few days, someone had backed into it leaving damage behind.  That was bad.  Maybe they slipped into it during the ice storm at the beginning of April.  Who knows but it would have been nice for that person to leave a note telling us what happened. The next week my “fix it” man rebuilt it with a little painting help from me.  It looks just as good as it was and now, he can move onto the next household project.

Scott and Chrissy Lockharts’ lives were completely rearranged last week when unexpectedly one night the Children’s Aid dropped off a 4-year-old foster boy who doesn’t speak or isn’t toilet-trained.  He is very cute and is responding well to their love and care; however, last Saturday night he came down with the flu which he passed along to all the other members of the family.  That was really bad!  They were all too sick to get out to church Sunday and so Gary broadcast our service from our home.  We headed to Swiss Chalet for lunch afterwards and to pick up our gear we had left behind from our Inquiry meeting Saturday.  By the way, Scott made a good presentation on our vision for Hillside Church to the few who attended.  We did have some good conversations with about three servers, including the manager, whom we have gotten to know really well over the past two years. Please pray for the Lockhart family.  It is a big learning curve for them to figure out what this little boy can do and what he wants when he doesn’t speak.  Since their family has grown to six, they are in need of a used minivan.

Hillside Church could use your prayers as well for we have been approved by the Canada Summer Jobs program to hire one student for eight weeks for outreach.  We are also looking for volunteers to help with knocking on doors in the various neighbourhoods to find those interested in learning about our church.

Even with suffering from a very bad cold and requiring oxygen for breathing at one point, our friend Thomas in Myanmar has diligently rebuilt his well with the remaining funds we have been able to raise.  He has also added solar power to run the generator to distribute water through a piping system to the plants. He and his son are such good workers.  With all this help they will be able to harvest three crops each year for income.  Wow, that’s a really good plan!

The book Breakthrough Pathways that Gary and his colleague Richard Flemming have been working on for over a year is now published and can be purchased on Amazon.  Yay!! (breakthroughpathways.org).

So, did you pray for our Canadian Elections Monday?  The apostle Paul in I Timothy 2:1-2 in the New Testament recommends that we do, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”  The countries of the world are run by both bad and good governments.  I am just very grateful to live in a country, even though not perfect, is good.  Mark Carney has a huge task set before him to appease everyone’s needs and opinions from coast to coast to coast.  He needs lots of prayer, wouldn’t you agree?

Take care,

Wendy
