Remembering
Dec 30
So how many photo albums have you collected on your book-shelves pre-cell phone days? I have been looking at over 20. That must mean that Gary and I are very old with all the memories we have accumulated over our lives together and before. I decided this fall that it was time to dismantle them and cull what we don’t want to keep e.g. pictures of people we have no clue as to who they are now. I also put many of those photos into picture boxes for our four children and their families for Christmas which was fun for them in remembering their early lives. I’m planning for our future as we can’t take all these books to any retirement home we may move to. My remembering has also been very uplifting when reading positive comments from family members, fellow co-workers and friends particularly if these comments have related to our ministry wherever we have lived. Hmmm, so what do I do with all the photos on my cell phone? I guess I have to cull them too.
Our daughter, Sara, has been remembering as well. The other day she pulled out a Communion Song she had written several years ago for a church plant we had started in Mississauga. Here’s the lyrics based on I Corinthians 11:23-26 – “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
Verse 1 I come to the table again
Eyes on my life
I confess all my fallings
I give you my life
I remember you, I remember you
Verse 2 I come to the table again
To remember when You were poured out for many
You were broken for me.
I remember You; I remember You
Verse 3 We come to the table again
To share in unity
The bread for Your body
The cup blood for me
We remember You; We remember You.
You might remember my update from last month’s newsletter regarding a submitted offer to purchase a children’s indoor playground centre in Milton for our Hillside Church. Gary reports: “We think we have uncovered a viable gateway here but as of this moment, we have asked enough questions to collectively draw the conclusion that our current move to purchase the kids’ indoor playground isn’t worth what we could offer. The concept seems sound, but the current business is not generating enough income to move us toward that goal… This could definitely change in the next few months because the current owner of the business and occupant of this ideal location is leaving the country and may not find a buyer. The location is likely to become available soon, along with the building’s contents.” Stay tuned and please keep praying! At Christmas time our thoughts often head towards remembering happy events along with sad ones too. May we all be awe-struck anew over the simplicity of Jesus’ birth and grateful for all the years that Jesus has looked after you.
A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
Wendy
