One Activity Often Leads to Another

“Did you see that?” Gary exclaimed to me as we were standing near our kitchen window. He has been restoring a pair of heritage doors through which we enter our two-story outside building over the past few weeks. One door was longer than the other which left a 3-inch gap under the left one. It’s still a work in progress. All of a sudden, he spied a baby groundhog slip under the door and head upstairs to his office. He quickly charged up the stairs but couldn’t find him. As a matter of fact, this little guy stayed up there all day and night. The next morning Gary found the messy damage he had created, such as chewing a couple of computer wires. He decided to search on Google to discover what these animals like to eat and learned they preferred peanuts, so he placed a trail all the way down the stairs to entice him outside. As you know, squirrels look peanuts too so one got in and managed to eat them halfway up the stairs. Eventually, when no more peanuts had been eaten, we knew this little monster had left the premises. Yes, one thing led to another that day!
Over a month ago, two young Indian student girls from Punjab knocked on our front door just out of the blue as they were walking through our village. They thought our house was a café of some sort. Gary invited them in and after an interesting conversation they agreed to volunteer with our church crew handing out information about our church in Milton at the Milton Summer Fest the following weekend, June 1, which they did. Chrissy Lockhart our pastor’s wife lost her job in May with Youth for Christ as apparently, she was unable to raise her support funds fast enough. This was another obstacle this newly married couple has been faced with, so they immediately decided to set up their Healthy Homes Cleaning business to bring in much needed income. Scott hired our new Indian friends to knock on doors to find interested leads for them. Through the Lockharts’ follow-up they have found some good clients. Kainos International Ministries also raised about $1000 to hire M & M to knock on doors to find possible church leads which will begin this next week. They joined us for lunch at Swiss Chalet last Sunday and one gal wanted Scott to tell her about the meaning of Jesus and his cross. They both got the full “nine yards” because they asked and didn’t know anything beforehand about Jesus and his life while living here on earth. Go figure. You never know what/who God will lead us to next.
Could you please pray for our contacts in Myanmar, Thomas and his wife Maven who is expecting their third child in August? Thomas updated their situation with the terrible fighting against the military regime the other day. He reported, “… the fighting is so close to Pyin Oo Lwin. There was great fighting Naungcho town, which is about one and half hours to drive, the town was taken by the people defense force. And there was great fighting at the check gate at Watwon village which is half hour to drive from Pyin Oo Lwin. Several of helicopter and jetfighter across our city. It is to believe that the people defense force try to take (capture) our city.” Thomas is also struggling over a court case in which he will have to pay $300 Cdn by next Friday due to the result of his misdemeanor of farming land that he didn’t own. What is next for him in all this upheaval? God only knows.
Gary is always advising young people to realize that any experience will prepare them for something else. As you look at your life overall what has led you from one experience to another? Has it just been by happenstance, of your own making or has it been because of how God has led you as in the old hymn, Jesus Led Me All the Way. I particularly like the second verse:
If God should let me there review The winding paths of earth I knew
It would be proven clear and true Jesus led me all the way.
Chorus: Jesus led me all the way, Led me step by step each day, I will tell the saints and angels, As I lay my burdens down, Jesus led me all the way.
Blessings to you on this Canada Day Weekend!

Hi Gary & Wendy:
May God continue to use you as you witness for Him and may a firm foundation be established in the Milton church. Just to let you know that Anna is not well. She is at home and we have PSW workers coming in each day. A week ago we had a Senior’s Sunday and I gave a testimony. It is on Westney Heights Baptist Church, scroll down to Sunday Service Watch Here and the to Senior’s Service.
Thanks for your prayers, Jim. We will remember to pray for you and Anna. She is your faithful partner for so many years. Keep us posted.
